What is the agreement about?

Orascom Telecom Holding S.A.E signed an agreement of five years with two of the world’s renowned companies, Huawei and Alcatel-Lucent. The telecom company aims at modernizing its Pakistani subsidiary, Mobilink with the help of this agreement. Huawei and Alcatel-Lucent have agreed to provide help for maintaining the design, deployment, purchase and maintenance of the next-generation telecom network equipment of Mobilink in Pakistan. Huawei and Alcatel-Lucent have proved themselves in the world arena as two of the leading global network providers. Similar expertise is expected from these companies in Pakistan as well. This investment means a lot for Mobilink. The company expects to enhance its voice as well as data services for its valuable customers in Pakistan. In addition to the enhancement of its services, the company also expects to make way for the introduction of 3G services in Pakistan, as soon as they are licensed nationwide. The leading telecom network providers in the global market are expected to repeat their same success mantra in Pakistan as well.

Company’s aims

Ahmed Abou Doma, the chief executive officer of the Orascom Telecom said that such investments will surely prove to be beneficial for the success of Mobilink in Pakistan. He further added that the strategic investment will help Mobilink to provide high quality, cutting- edge voice, data and mobile broadband services to its customers in Pakistan. He hopes that the strategic agreement will help cut-short the costs linked with operating the mobile network also. In addition to the above expected results, Mobilink also expects that the improved technology of the latest generation equipment that Alcatel-Lucent and Huawei bring with them, will allow Mobilink to efficiently reduce the operating costs in addition to the increase in network efficiency. In the agreement, the radio network was divided equally among the two companies with both of them getting 50% of the radio access network. On the other hand, all of the core networks as well as the value added services network were awarded to Huawei alone.
