Well I think we can all agree: Kids take work. When you have a kid, it’s literally another life that doesn’t only need just a little bit of attention, education, and guidance… They need almost everything you can give them. I remember hearing on quote that really changed my view of parenting. The quote was, “If you aren’t giving your children your all, you aren’t giving them what they deserve”. I think that’s completely true. I think that can even transfer into the type of technology we get for ourselves. We need to be utilizing all the types of technology we have so that our kids are ready for their futures. Here are a few ways you can do that!
PlaySquare
This is something I wish existed when I was child! It’s basically a TV app that you can interact with. Thanks to PBS Kids and other various programs that offer amazingly educational content for kids, we are able to let our kids watch TV and learn all at the same time. The magic does not stop there, we can now use PlaySquare on the iPad to let our kids watch TV and then interact with the show. The show does not move on to the next lesson until your child gets it!
Khan Academy
This has been quite the buzz on the Internet. The thing about the Internet is, you can never just call what the next big hit will be, no one would even know that the Internet was that big of a deal in the 80’s anyway! So it could really get interesting to see all these new forms of technology that comes out. Khan Academy started from an uncle that was tutoring his nephews in some math that was fairly simple and easy to do. The problem that was placed in front of him was that they were living in another state. So he then bought a small pad to draw on and recorded himself teaching lessons with his voice as the audio and then also the video was him drawing on the pad. He simply uploaded the lessons to YouTube where it all exploded. He then started getting requests online for different types of lessons. He then had a following of other children that were learning. Even some adults got in on it. That wasn’t enough though; he needed just another kicker to get him going if he was going to peruse this fulltime. It wasn’t until the billionaire Bill Gates said in a small interview that his kids have been using Khan Academy on YouTube for tutoring! Check it out! Google Khan Academy and you will be amazed by how easy it is to learn from this guy.
Alarm.com
Teaching a child safety can be harder than almost anything else. Most of the time a child learns from a hot stove, learns from riding his bike too fast, or saying bad words… But when they aren’t safe in the home against crime, it’s far too late! It’s our job to teach them that they need to focus on it. The best way to do so is to set yourself up with a company called Smith Monitoring that is the best provider in Cedar Park home security. Children love to be challenged and even taught in an interactive way. The app Alarm.com gets set up through Smith, and then you are able to control all the features they give you with a really interactive app on your iPad/iPhone!
